Smart AKIS at COPA-COGECA Congress of EU Farmers
Copa and Cogeca, representing the voice of over 23 million European farmers and their families, as well as 22,000 agri-cooperatives, held the annual Congress of European Farmers in Athens, Greece, on October 5 and 6, to debate the future of agriculture and secure a better future for our producers.
Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), Smart AKIS Network Coordinator, with the collaboration of CEMA-European Agricultural Machinery association, Smart-AKIS partners and sponsor of the Congress, attended the event and disseminated the Network among the wide number of participants to the event. Smart AKIS held a stand in the entrance to the conference room with Network information and materials and the constant presence of Thanos Balafoutis and Matina Voulgaraki, AUA staff directly engaged in the Network, who provided information on Smart AKIS to interested attendants.
The Congress entitled “Opportunities for European Agriculture: Green Growth and Dynamic Markets” – focused on how to ensure a sustainable, competitive, innovative and economically viable EU agriculture sector in the future. Many high-level speakers participated in this event, including European Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan, the Slovak Presidency, European Parliaments’ Agriculture and Rural Development Committee Chairman Mr Siekierski.
On October 7, AUA also attended the 3rd Panhellenic Congress on the Development of Greek Agriculture entitled “Common Agricultural Policy (CAP): learning from the past in order to prepare the future”.
